Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird introduced the community to Land Phil, a high-energy mascot designed to serve as the city鈥檚 new waste diversion ambassador. The unveiling is the centerpiece of the 鈥淟ove Your Land Phil鈥 education campaign, which aims to inspire residents to significantly reduce the amount of trash sent to local landfills through smarter recycling and waste reduction habits.

The initiative comes as city officials look for creative ways to engage the public in sustainable practices. By personifying the concept of a landfill, the city hopes to make the abstract idea of waste management more relatable to families and students.聽Residents are encouraged to visit a dedicated website, lovelandphil.com, to learn more about the ambassador and pick up practical tips for thinning out their trash bins.

鈥淟and Phil is here to help us all understand that our daily choices have a direct impact on the longevity of our local resources,鈥 city officials said during the launch. The campaign is being spearheaded by the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities department in conjunction with the Mayor鈥檚 Office.
