The City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works (DPW) Bureau of Environmental Services has been awarded a $1.66 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Solid ºÚÁÏÍø Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) program to modernize recycling and yard waste services.

The grant will allow for advancements in Environmental Services’ operations, including investing in vehicles and improving and expanding curbside yard waste collection.

Included in the overall upgrades will be new pavement, fencing and two new cardboard compactors at DPW’s recycling drop-off sites. Security cameras will also be installed at the Environmental Services headquarters in the Strip District and additional locations.
