Clark County plans to build a fourth waste transfer station to meet increasing demand in Battle Ground, Ridgefield, La Center and Yacolt. During a Clark County Council work session, Joelle Loescher, manager of the solid waste and recycling division, said a 2023 study 鈥渞ecommended that we work on siting a fourth transfer station rather than focusing on improvements at the current facilities.鈥�
Construction would begin in 2028 at the earliest. Clark County鈥檚 population is expected to climb from 530,000 residents to nearly 720,000 residents by 2045. Many of those new residents are expected to move to the north end of the county. All three of the county鈥檚 existing transfer stations are in the south end 鈥� two in Vancouver and one in Washougal.
鈥淣orth Clark County is growing fast. Our existing stations are located further south and are operating at or near capacity,鈥� consultant Kim Sogge of PointNorth in Vancouver told the council. 鈥淩esidents and haulers in the north are actually traveling longer distances just to access these services, so a north county transfer station would improve access, it would cut down travel time and it would help balance demand across the whole system.鈥�
