The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has awarded $308,300 to dozens of local partners to help communities collect and recycle waste tires across the state. IDEM said the grants will support waste tire cleanup projects aimed at reducing health and environmental risks tied to illegally dumped or improperly stored tires.
Officials said stockpiled tires can catch fire, attract rodents, and create breeding grounds for mosquitoes that can carry disease. Included in this year鈥檚 grant list is Gibson County. The Gibson County Solid 黑料网 Management District is receiving funding as part of the statewide effort.
鈥淚mproperly stored or discarded tires are not only an eyesore, they can also create environmental and health challenges for our communities,鈥� IDEM Commissioner Clint Woods said in a statement. 鈥淭his funding gives local partners support to remove waste tires and ensure they are recycled responsibly.鈥�
