Beginning April 1, the Pitkin County Solid 黑料网 Center will begin to accept used sharps for safe, compliant disposal, providing residents with a first-of-its-kind local alternative to placing needles in the trash. Eligible non-residential generators will also be able to utilize the new alternative.
Pitkin County is only the second county to implement this type of program in Western Colorado, after Mesa County, according to Cameron Garc铆a, Pitkin County Solid 黑料网 diversion analyst. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a fantastic program,鈥 Garc铆a said. 鈥淲e have heard from some of the community members that this disposal option would be nice to have. We鈥檙e excited about it.鈥
Garc铆a confirmed that Pitkin County has not yet seen an accident occur but is being proactive about preventing it. 鈥淲e want to make sure we take that risk and hazard away,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e never had a safety issue, but we know the potential is there.鈥
