Campbell County has installed large recycling compactors at four of its waste collection sites, allowing residents to place all recyclable items into a single container without sorting them. This has been made possible through a non-profit grant and a partnership with Elite Recycling.
The compacted waste is later sorted out by a machine at Elite Recycling鈥檚 facility. The system, known as co-mingling, has already been in use at Campbell County Public Schools. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 saving us dollars every single year. Whether our residents realize that or not, that is a very effective way of recycling and making sure that we don鈥檛 just dump things into a landfill,鈥 said Rustburg District Supervisor Jon Hardie.
Hardie said the county has seen demand from residents for more recycling options and that Elite Recycling has been a key partner in meeting that demand. 鈥淲e have a strong relationship with Elite Recycling, which is a private company here located in Campbell County. They鈥檝e done an excellent job working with our waste and actually helping minimize the waste that we all share,鈥 said Hardie.
