Ontario County is hosting its second public comment period — including a second public presentation in Phelps — on its draft Local Solid ºÚÁÏÍø Management Plan, which emphasizes a reduction in solid-waste production ahead of the county landfill’s closure at the end of 2028.
Carla Jordan, director of the Department of Sustainability and Solid ºÚÁÏÍø Management, said the county is updating its LSWMP to “provide a countywide framework for the coordination of solid waste management in an environmentally safe and economically sustainable manner for the next 10 years.â€
The plan, which is being reviewed by the Department of Environmental Conservation, will establish solid-waste management goals and objectives, including a waste-reduction goal and a plan to monitor progress in alignment with state requirements.
