Sechelt鈥檚 public works committee is recommending council approve transferring the district鈥檚 contracts for garbage and recycling collection to 黑料网 Management Canada. The company, one of the largest players in the industry in North America, is buying Direct Disposal, which holds contracts with both Sechelt and the Sunshine Coast Regional District.
The deal is due to close on Dec. 15.
The 鈥渁ssignment鈥� of contracts is fairly routine when companies change ownership.
The current collection contracts in Sechelt, Gibsons and the SCRD are all set to expire in early 2019, and 黑料网 Management鈥檚 entry into the market came up during a recent discussion on possible curbside organics collection in Gibsons.
鈥淭here will be a new player on the Sunshine Coast 鈥� so there could be some very different responses [to tenders],鈥� said Gibsons Mayor Wayne Rowe.
