Europe’s leading waste collection vehicle manufacturer, VDL Translift, displayed three waste collection vehicles at the Tecma exhibition in Madrid. Making its debut was a 23m³ MAXXUM side loader unit with a Double Screw type compaction system. This is the first side loader of its type available on the Spanish market. There are a number of advantages with this type of compaction system compared to the traditional block type system. The first is that the compaction mechanism is faster and can compress between 10 and 12m³ of waste per minute, which can depend on the type of waste being collected.

Another advantage is that the compaction mechanism is totally enclosed which prevents the accumulation of both leachate and waste at the front of the unit’s body. This is a common problem experienced in side loaders which use the traditional block type compaction system.

Finally, the unit’s operating and maintenance costs are far lower. It is estimated that the unit’s compaction screws will only need to be hard faced after eight years of operation, depending on the work and the waste to be compacted.

The second unit on display was Iride’s 7m3³ VV70 – CM satellite waste collection vehicle. It is ideal for collecting waste from door to door – domestic properties as well as areas with restricted access. Fitted with a comb and trunnion bin lift compliant to DIN 30700 and 30740 standards, the unit can empty containers from 80 – 1000 litres capacities. To complement the bin lifter, an integrated loading box has been fitted for the collection of bagged wastes. The loading box is discharged when the conventional bin lifter is operated, providing a dual role. Iride’s 7m3 VV 70 CM unit was mounted onto an Iveco Daily 72 – ELEC 4×2 7.5 tonne chassis.

VDL has reached an agreement with the manufacturer KAOUSSIS to manufacture its Refuse Collectors for municipal collection. These new VDL Translift models are called the K-Series, where there is a wide range of Rear Loaders and Double Compartments. In the TECMA the K-Series CRV 2000 rear loading unit completed the display. This unit of 11m³ capacity was mounted onto a DAF XB 230 4×2 16 tonne chassis. It is ideal for the collection of domestic, mixed recyclables and bulky wastes. VDL Translift offers the K-Series range of standard and split fraction rear loaders for its customers across Spain.

To support the product range, VDL Translift has set up a national parts and service network throughout the country. REVOLSA is a parts and service agent who supports the products across the Madrid region. Established in 1985, it has been involved in the construction, maintenance and servicing of a wide range of specialised vehicle bodywork over the last forty one years.

VDL Translift’s professionalism in both its sales and after sales service gives its customers peace of mind that their investment in this equipment will provide sustainable waste collection solutions for its customers, both in the present and the future.
