The Town of Smithtown Department of Environment and Waterways, in coordination with the Municipal Services Facility, hosted another successful Household Hazardous Collection Event on July 11, serving 581 Smithtown households. The event represented a substantial increase from the 420 households that participated during the Summer 2025 collection.

Residents safely disposed of 19,320 pounds (6.66 tons) of hazardous household materials that cannot be placed in regular curbside trash, helping to protect Smithtown’s drinking water, parks, waterways, and the environment.

“The tremendous participation in this event reflects our community’s shared commitment to protecting Smithtown’s environment. I want to thank every resident who participated, along with the dedicated teams from the Department of Environment and Waterways, the Municipal Services Facility, the Department of Public Safety Fire Marshals, Radiac Research Corporation, and Reworld for their outstanding teamwork in providing a safe and successful event,” said Supervisor Edward R. Wehrheim.
